This article gives an overview of Indian education and values. Specific teaching strategies for Native American students are suggested as being more culturally appropriate. The American Indian student enters the school system with a cultural heritage and set of values appreciably different from that of the educational system itself. It should be the aim of the system to adapt to the needs of the Indian student, not to try to change the student to fit into the system.
