Summary, etc |
Traditional Aboriginal mothering is a community responsibility that crosses generations and gender. "The Sacred Space of Womanhood: Mothering Across the Generations" was a gathering hosted by the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health in January 2012. Over 160 participants gathered in Ottawa for this three-day event: mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunties, uncles, fathers, grandfathers, sons and babies.

|
Expansion of summary note |
From communities all over Canada, schools and clinics, universities and government offices, daycares and kitchens, people came and shared their stories and songs, their worries and their wisdom. The accompanying video captures some of that sharing and highlights ways to support and honor First Nations, Inuit and Métis mothering for the health of our children and the well-being of our families, communities, and nations. |
