N2  - The Native Infant Program is a home-based, multidisciplinary program for Native children through four years of age on five reserves on Vancouver Island. The overall goals of the program are the early correction of departures from good health, provision of education, and prevention of social problems through an early intervention program which combines traditional cultural and present child-rearing practices. The program provides children with experiences and services which enhance their early development by encouraging and helping parents to develop skills necessary to provide meaningful experiences for their children. The paper describes the establishment of the program, the training of Native women as infant workers, program content and the results of evaluation
