520 | _aThe Moccasins is a children's picture book published by Theytus Books. A member of the Ktunaxa First Nations of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers region of British Columbia, Earl Einarson, formerly a foster child, wrote this story for children about an Aboriginal foster child who has a positive experience when his foster mother gives him a gift of moccasins and encourages him to take pride in his Aboriginal heritage. Illustrated in simple line drawings by Julie Flett, this picture book is a heartfelt tribute to a loving foster mother who encourages her Native foster child to take pride in his cultural heritage. This gift of moccasins fills the child with love. When the boy becomes an adult this same feeling is repeated when the foster mother returns with the childhood moccasins and presents them as a gift for his newborn child. A wonderful story about unconditional love for readers from all cultural backgrounds. | ||
